HomeQuicken for MacFile Conversion and Backup (Mac)
edited January 2019 in File Conversion and Backup (Mac)
There doesn't seem to be a way any longer to export a QIF. The subscription model was the straw that broke the camel's back. I was already super frustrated with what Quicken has become. I've already been super-frustrated with the autofill/autocategorization thing. I definitely don't want to subscribe to it (and no, I don't believe the marketing speak of the subscription model making it more convenient for customers - I'm in the advertising/marketing/design biz. I have to subscribe to Adobe. Please.)
But it looks like (I could be wrong) the export file (to import into other personal finance software) is a proprietary format and only meant for forcing you to stay within the Quicken ecosystem.
Can anyone help? I think 2018 will be the year I start keeping my books in an Excel spreadsheet.

You have completed Intuit Online Payroll setup and are setting up export to Quicken. Note: Do not export paychecks and tax payments at. Jun 25, 2019  From the File menu, click File Import then QIF File.; Browse your local filesystem for the QIF file. Select your PayPal account in the Quicken Account to Import Into list. Add any additional information you want to bring into Quicken, using the Include in Import options. Click Next to complete the import.Transactions will now be imported into your PayPal account in Quicken.

Check with the other personal fiance programs. I believe at least some of them have a way to import Quicken Mac data.

I have been looking into those, but they all seem to have autofill/autocategorization. A terrible bookkeeping practice.

I'm on the Windows side so I have control of my 'Memorized Payees' which control which categories they get.
But in truth the way I do it is have one memorized payee/category for a given payee/store. The one I use the most, and if I make a purchase where it should be a different category, I change it manually at that time. And I don't let Quicken automatically create memorized payees.
Now I understand this isn't possible in Quicken Mac, automatic can't be turned off/controlled. Probably not the best, but like you said other personal finance software is doing it too.
So I don't really get the point of the posting of the problem of not being able to export a QIF file if you have no intention of going to another program like you stated.

Gui scp for mac. If you are trying to automate secure file transfers (e.g., with a cronjob), being able to write a little shell script and use public key authentication is a heck of a lot better than manually diddling with a GUI every single day. Many times I simply would rather fire up another shell buffer in Emacs, rather than diddling with a GUI. Actually, this is often a great thing.

I was going to try to go to another program - I've been researching all morning, looking at options. Actually for days. I ended up exporting all my transactions to a CSV.
I don't want categories memorized at all.

BTW, After purchase, you can opt out of the subscription renewal. Your software will continue to work as is but you will lose all online functionality when your subscription expires. This applies to the Deluxe and better versions. The only exception is the Starter version which requires an ongoing subscription to continue to use it beyond the expiry.
